Multilingualism

Language, as a central tool for human communication, plays a pivotal role in creating social, cultural and educational connections. Learning to communicate in a range of languages fosters cultural awareness and mutual understanding, while creating personal and professional opportunities for the next generation.

At British School of Geneva  we value and celebrate multilingualism as a key competency needed for personal fulfilment, a healthy and sustainable lifestyle, employability, active citizenship and social inclusion.

Our commitment to multilingualism is a cornerstone of our transformative educational approach, fostering a rich and inclusive learning environment. At BSG, we are extremely proud that our school is attended by students of over 70 nationalities, who speak at least 60 languages. In addition to supporting the development of their home languages, we ensure that all students explore and communicate confidently in at least one other world language.

Languages offered

In Early Years, Primary and Secondary, English and French are developed through focused language learning across the curriculum, while additional languages such as German, Spanish, Italian, Russian, and Japanese are also available for study; for less frequently requested languages, we may charge a moderate additional fee.

At A-Level we offer courses in English Language and Literature, French and other languages upon request.

Tailored language assessments

To ensure the best language learning provision, new students complete an initial assessment and language profile questionnaire upon enrolment. We use both Oxford and Password EAL assessments. Our goal is for students to achieve at least a B2 proficiency level in English, meeting the requirements for higher education standards.
