English National Curriculum for children aged 3 to 18

At The British School of Geneva, we are delighted to welcome students from more than 70 countries to our classrooms. Our students thrive because they feel known, safe and empowered to grow intellectually and emotionally.

BSG is an all-through school and offers the English National Curriculum for children from 3 - 18 years of age. We are proud to be the only school in the city of Geneva to offer A Levels, which we have done since 2005.

Welcome to British School of Geneva

Your learning journey

We believe in personalised learning that grows with the wonderfully unique needs of your child.

Early Years

3 years old

In Reception year, children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum.
Complementing the fundamentals of communication and language, as well as personal and social development, teaching focuses on specific areas of learning including:

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the world
  • Expressive arts

Carefully planned play forms an important part of children’s development and learning.

Early Years

Primary

5-10 years old

In Primary School, children follow the curriculum outlined in Key Stages 1 and 2 covering a wide range of subjects including:

  • Mathematics and Science
  • English and Humanities
  • French
  • ICT (Computers)
  • Visual Arts, Music and Physical Education

In Years 1 to 6, children will gain a solid academic foundation upon which to build, and the confidence and curiosity to strive for ever greater academic heights.

Secondary

11-15 years old

In Years 7-9 (Key Stage 3), all students follow a broad curriculum of general academic subjects consisting of:

Mathematics | Science | English | French | History | Geography | ICT |  Art | Citizenship | Physical Education

The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) programme, in Years 10-11 (Key Stage 4), features core subjects complemented by an even broader list of options.

Focus on critical skills such as reasoning, analysis, research and leadership increases, and our small class sizes and embedded pastoral care foster a truly supportive and personalised environment that is essential during these important years.

A-Level

16-18 years old

Subjects are offered according to student preferences and include:

English | French, with other modern foreign languages on request | Mathematics | Economics | Physics | Biology | Chemistry History | Geography | Psychology | Art | IT

This 2-year programme  is open to students aged 16 and above, of all nationalities and educational backgrounds.  A solid performance in three A-Levels represents a passport to entry into universities worldwide.

For students with clearly identified areas of strength or interest, specialising in fewer subjects is a better fit than programmes with numerous compulsory subjects, such as the International Baccalaureate.
